How it works
Scoping
Every project is different in terms of scope, size and outcomes. But we begin all by a deep dive briefing session, preferably in person but often virtually with many stakeholders. We have a number of methods to ensure the strategy is right.
Design
Once the brief is right with the objectives and personas defined, we design and plan the product. A large scale application might take a month or two of planning. A small website might take a day.
Build
With designs signed off and perhaps tested with specific users, we can then build. We have various methods of creation, from WordPress for 'normal' websites, to React.js and Yii backends for web applications.
Launch
We launch the project and maintain. We can host applications and websites, or we can use cloud based servers such as AWS, or your existing setup. A website or an application is a long term project so you need a long term partnership you can trust.

How long does a web design take?
How long is a piece of string. It very much depends on the size of the project, if this is a new or upgrade project, and how much design work needs to be done. A business app might take a few months. A website with a new brand might take 4-6 weeks. We always find with websites it is the content and signoff of content that takes the biggest chunk of time.
What is the mix of design and developers?
We strangely only have two designers who are instrumental in all projects. But even the designers – Agate and Sam – are developers. We believe you cannot design a website without also knowing how it works. All at Practically think in a strategic way, be they designer or developer. We ask human questions.
How big is Practically.io?
We are 9 people as of writing. We are divided into two teams. We have 6 hardcore developers who work on web application led by Ben. And we have a team of three who work on the more design, brand and marketing led ‘normal’ websites. There is of course much overlap when it comes to project management, UX and strategy.
I have a vague idea -should I still call?

Can I get a quotation?
Yes and no. We don’t have set fees for things, but we have a day rate and estimate how long a job will take. Get in touch and we can discuss.
What design awards do you have?
Lots – but we haven’t entered any in some time. Check out Sam’s university of Worcester profile here.
Do you have a house style?
We hope you will see that our work is wide-ranging. We do not have a house style with regards to design OR code stacks. We pride ourselves on the craft of digital.
